  • Sure! Once you've downloaded the ZIP file, click to open it in the File Explorer. You'll see the contents of the ZIP archive: a "Donate with PayPal" shortcut, the Fliqlo.scr screensaver file, and a ReadMe text file with extra information and instructions.

At the top of the window, make sure "Compressed Folder Tools" is selected, then click "Extract all". Click the "Browse" button, then click your main hard drive (usually "C:") in the left panel, under "This PC", and then double-click the "Windows" folder. Finally, click "Select Folder". Then click the "Extract" button.

You may be prompted to give administrator permission to continue, because the Windows folder is a protected folder that only administrators can access.

If the Windows folder opens up in the File Explorer after extracting, you can optionally locate the "Fliqlo" screensaver file, right-click it and select "Install", but this isn't strictly necessary. However, it's also an easy way to open up the Screen Saver Settings panel, where you should now find Fliqlo among the screensavers.

Note that the Fliqlo screensaver file should not be set to open in Chrome. Only the "Donate with PayPal" shortcut should open in Chrome if that's your default browser.

Hope that helps! If not, please let me know.

  • Hi Rob,
    Thankyou for the quick reply!.

I did the exact same as u said.

However, I might need a way to get rid of this file being opened by the chrome, I reinstalled chrome as I could not change .scr files to be opened by another application. Also I think this might have caused another corruption as it opened using chrome previously and chrome isn't there in the same link as before ,now when I try to select the "open" option it displays me "how do u want to open this file" and displays the previous location where chrome was installed. Also there is the "more option" option afterwards.

Also I tried installing this in my other computer and it when smoothly as it was said in instructions where it had "test" , "configure" and "install" also it showed the file type in the file explorer as Screen saver.

In the read me file it said to jst copy and paste the extracted file in system32 folder and select the fliqlo option in the screen saver change application. I also did it and as soon as i selected the fliqlo option it displays me 2 error msgs " this application could not be started" one after the other. I tried running the .Net Framework Repair Tool as said in the windows recommended troubleshooting. However, it also didn't help.

I googled this problem yesterday after sending the request in this message board. Some said this might have a problem in the windows update or windows version, I am using the Windows 10 Home - version 20H2.

I think this was not a problem where most of other ppl get as i didn't find any answer in the net.

I hope u can understand the problem here and give a solution as I'm eagerly waiting to use this in my main computer.

  • Try this: click the Start menu icon at the bottom left of your screen, then type "cmd". A shortcut for "Command Prompt" should appear. Right-click this shortcut and choose "Run as administrator". This will open a command prompt window.

    Here, type the following line:

    assoc .scr=scrfile

Then press Enter. The return message will be ".scr=scrfile".

To close the Command Prompt, type "exit" (without quotes), then press Enter.

Now try to open, test or install the screensaver file as you did on the other computer.

Hopefully this has restored the screensaver file association!

  • Still its the same mate.

I think I need a way to get rid of that chrome thing without reinstalling it.

I tried to change the default in windows settings but still it says to look for an app in the store or more options with apps in my computer

After doing this I think your answer might help me. However I tried doing what you said. : )

  • I googled it again.

    https://techforluddites.com/windows-10-change-the-default-programs-for-opening-files/

This is this type of problem I have. Refer to the " Having no default " section

  • That's too bad. I tried to replicate this by associating .scr with Chrome, but when I run the "assoc" command afterwards, as above, that always fixes it instantly.

Another thing you could try, if you haven't already, is open up the Registry Editor by entering "regedit" after clicking the Start menu. Now browse to the path below or enter it into the address bar at the top of the Registry Editor window:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts

Locate the .scr folder in the list there, right-click it and choose "Delete". You can then close the Registry Editor. This should have reset the app association with .scr files. It shouldn't be necessary to restart your computer, but it won't hurt.

  • Alternatively, download this dummy file and place it on your desktop. Now, locate the .scr file, right-click it and choose "Open with", if that option is given. Click "Choose another app", scroll down, click "More apps", then scroll down again and click "Look for another app on this PC". Browse to your desktop, and then double-click the DummyFile.bat file you placed there. Finally, delete the DummyFile.bat file.

After this, you may need to restart the computer. The file association should be reset.

  • : (

Can't we set that " assoc .scr=Screen saver " something like that. At this moment it shows me the type as SCR File, also I need to see that as " Screen saver " which is the way I see this file in my other computer.

Can I also know the reason y this kind of things happen.

I also tried that alternative method, and then windows said me " this app can't be run on your pc ", rather than selecting as a default for me to delete the batch file.

This error is so much complicated.

But the other screen saver files are also in this SCR File type in System32

I tried the registry editor and I deleted the openwithprogid and also shld I delete the openwithlist ? Also windows have reset that deleted item. Also i tried deleting them both and it wasn't reset

Can u check if this helps :-

  • Are there any 3rd party screen saver application u would recommend, if this wouldn't work

    Kalindu Gunathilake3 years ago

  • Windows will internally recognize "scrfile", that we set using the "assoc .scr=scrfile" command, as the file type that's used specifically for screensavers. Anything other than "scrfile", like "assoc .scr=Screen saver", will not work.

I'm not sure why it's happening, and I'm unable to replicate it on my computer.

Try to install this registry file from Windows 10 Help Forums to reset the .scr association.

As for third-party tools, there's the File Association Fixer v2 from The Windows Club, but for me it doesn't list SCR among the file types that can be fixed.

  • Yooooooooo,

Thank you very much mate, that merge of the registry file solved the problem.
Thank you again for staying with my problem. : )

    Peace.

  • Great! Glad it's working. Thanks for reporting back & enjoy the screensaver.
