My 3d Christmas Tree
Love this one but it crashes to desktop in around two minutes. So does the 3d Christmas cottage.

Hi Rick,
Unfortunately, I can't replicate this on Windows 10, but someone else reported the same issue yesterday and they were also on Windows 7. The 3D Snowy Cottage screensaver is from the same author as My 3D Christmas Tree, so they work similarly and it makes sense that both crash in the same manner.
The only thing I can think of right now is that you could play around with the screensaver's settings, to see if there's anything that might prevent it from crashing. For example, in the Scenes tab of the settings panel, you can choose to use one specific background instead of having the screensaver rotate between them. It's possible that it crashes when it tries to rotate the background.
You could also try toggling the music, sound effects, snow or the decorations, to see if that makes a difference. Maybe also run "Test my system for optimal settings" again.
Failing that, I'm not sure what the problem could be, but I'll look into it.

I just did a clean install of Windows 7 because I got a new SSD for Christmas. I reinstalled both of these screensavers. Before this I could change the settings but they would crash a minute later. Now I can't change settings. I get a message about settings.data error? They will play and change each time but they still crash. I've used both of these as far back as Windows XP Pro and they always worked. I'm using the latest version of flashplayer. I feel like they work better with an older version. Not sure but I really like the Christmas tree one.

For any future readers, we continued this conversation over e-mail and Ricky has found that the issue can be solved by removing the Adobe Flash Player from Windows or by disabling the "Rotating backgrounds" setting by choosing one of the three backgrounds. You can also try to disable "Random decorations".
The screensaver itself does not require Adobe Flash to be installed, but its settings panel does, so after removing Flash the screensaver will continue to work but you can't change any of its settings except by manually editing this file:
